- JILI365 Tong Its
- Tong Its (written Tongits in the Philippines) is a three-player rummy game: draw, meld sets and runs, lay off cards by sapaw, and finish by emptying your hand, calling Draw, or holding the lowest count when the stock runs out.
The joker card is the extra card that sits outside the four suits of a standard deck. Whether it matters depends on the game: some games hand it the power to stand in for any card, others remove it before the first deal. Check which camp your table is in before you read a hand, and the card game rules shared across lobby tables cover the habits that do not change.
Which games use the joker and which leave it out
| Game | Joker in play? | What it does or why it is out |
|---|---|---|
| Tong Its | No | Played with a standard 52-card deck, without jokers |
| Pontoon | No | Played with a standard 52-card pack; no wild cards |
| Pekwa (Sevens / Fan Tan) | No | Cards are laid out in suit sequence from the sevens, so a stand-in card is not needed |
| Rummy-style variants | Sometimes | Can substitute for a card in a set or run when the house rules allow it |
The two sourced rows come from the Pagat rules reference; the rest is customary and a table’s own rules screen decides.
What the joker does where it is used
Where jokers are dealt in, the usual job is substitution. Example: with 7 of hearts, 8 of hearts and a joker, the joker can act as the 9 or 6 of hearts so the three cards form a run. Most rummy-family rules then ask a few questions you should answer before the hand starts:
- May the joker stand in for any card, or only in certain melds?
- Can another player take the joker back from a meld?
- Is a hand of nothing but melds and a joker still a win?
Different groups answer these differently, and a lobby table’s rules screen is the answer to read.
Joker card against wild symbol
A slot’s wild symbol does a similar job inside a spin, but it belongs to that slot’s own rules rather than to a deck. For the slot version of the idea, read the wild symbol meaning in slots page. | Feature | Joker card | Wild symbol | |---|---|---| | Where it lives | A physical or dealt card | A slot reel symbol | | Who sets its power | The game’s house rules | The studio’s paytable | | Needs a fixed deck | Yes | No |
The difference matters because a deck of cards has a fixed content you can reason about, while a slot’s symbols follow the studio’s paytable.
Games with no cards at all
Not every table game has cards, and for these no joker applies:
- How to play Color Game uses dice.
- The bingo rules from card layout to patterns use numbered cards unrelated to a deck.
When a lobby lists a card game, open its rules screen and look for the word joker. If it is absent, assume the plain deck and play on that basis.

FAQ
What does the joker card do?
It depends on the game. Where jokers are in play, the joker commonly substitutes for another card to complete a set or run, but the exact limits are set by that game's rules.
Is the joker used in Tong Its?
No. The Tong Its rules reference describes a standard 52-card deck without jokers.
Pareho ba ang joker card at wild symbol sa slots?
Magkahawig ang gamit, pero magkaiba ang laro. A joker is a physical card in a card game, while a wild symbol is a slot symbol that substitutes for others under that slot's own rules.
